An Education Services Hub in downtown Manukau will be critical to future growth prospects in the city, according to the submission from the City of Manukau Education Trust, released today.
Significant challenges face urban schools that do not fit the traditional models of schooling. These challenges result from legislative, governance, staffing and operational funding arrangements that apply to all schools. There are special difficulties arising from these arrangements for the complex campuses in the Auckland region. A Summit hosted by COMET on March 26, 2009 will bring key stakeholders together to focus on the particularly complex issues that these schools face.

New Early Childhood Education Centres in Manurewa Welcome
The announcement of nine new early childhood education centres to be established on school sites in Manurewa marks a welcome injection into a community with urgent needs for new services, according to Bernardine Vester, the Chief Executive of the City of Manukau Education Trust.
The City of Manukau Education Trust (COMET) has recommended the creation of an Education Services Hub in the city centre in its recently-released report to Manukau City Council. COMET’s recommendation is part of a report released last week, Working Together: Mahi Tahi Tatou, which makes a number of recommendations to Manukau City Council about the development of a Manukau Education Strategy.
