Trustees

The Trustees serve on a voluntary basis. They meet once a month and the Chairperson is requierd to submit a report to Manukau City Council twice a year.

 

Bill Gavin - Chairperson
Bill was Principal of Otahuhu College between 1985 and 2001. During his principalship he had a two year term as Chair of the Auckland Secondary Schools Principals' Association and he chaired AIMHI (Achievement in Multi-cultural High Schools), a forum of decile one secondary schools. From 2002 to 2006 he continued to oversee the development of AIMHI as Project Co-ordinator. Bill serves on a number of education-related boards including COMET, the Youth Mentoring Network, Project K Manukau and the Sir George Elliot Trust. In recent years he has had experience as an education consultant overseas (in Vanuatu and Qatar) and locally (in providing consultancy services to schools and in the training of boards of trustees).

Peter Coolbear
Dr Peter Coolbear is the foundation director of Ako Aotearoa, the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence.  Originally a teacher and researcher in plant science, Peter has held a series of management positions in the New Zealand polytechnic sector, most recently as Deputy Chief Executive at Manukau Institute of Technology. He is a board member of NZCER  and also serves on the Professional Development Steering Group for the ACE sector.

 

Graeme McClennan
Graeme is the Manager Schools and Community at Manukau Institute of Technology where he has worked for the last six years. His responsibilities include relationship work with local secondary schools, PTEs and community organisations, as well as the Information services provided by MIT. Previously he was a senior manager at Tangaroa College, and is currently a member of the BOT of that school.

 

John Heyes

John is Principal of Mangere College and an Executive member of Auckland Secondary Schools’ Principals’ Association.  He is a member of the AIMHI Forum, which he chaired in 2006 and 2007.
John also sits on the School of Teacher Education Advisory Group, the Community Partnership Group of CMDHB Let’s Beat Diabetes, and the Mangere Community Safety Group.
