COMET connects families and the community to learning. 
Our key theme is:

Working Together for Education

Established in 1999 by Manukau City Council, the City of Manukau Education Trust (COMET) is a charitable trust that focuses on connecting families, business and community to learning.

We achieve this by facilitating meaningful partnerships and synergies between local and wider communities and the many diverse institutions that operate within the education sector.

We act as educational advocates, lobbyists, advisors, commentators and coordinators within the boundaries of the following principles:

• Creating consistency across all concerned parties
• Providing our diverse communities with comprehensive educational resources
• Advocating for all levels of education providers
• Facilitating the effective delivery of educational services
• Identifying needs and opportunities in the local education sector
• Communicating these needs to relevant parties such as local and central government, business, community boards etc.

At COMET we facilitate a number of projects such as:

• COMET Principal For A Day - a unique opportunity for business and education leaders to exchange and share knowledge 
• Manukau Family Literacy Programme - an intergenerational literacy programme that helps shift families out of poverty
• Education for Enterprise - An opportunity for school students to link their learning to 'real-life' situations
• COMET Authentic Learning Initiative - Promoting sustainable relationships between schools and businesses

We work closely with all levels of the community and we are moving forward in our bid to advance education and educational opportunities, thereby improving services, and ultimately our communities' collective educational experiences.
