First established in New Zealand in 2002, the COMET Principal for a Day programme puts local business leaders in a school's driving seat as they shadow a Principal for a day to observe the challenges and strengths of education at work in our communities.
By facilitating open, transparent one-on-one discussions between school leaders and their business counterparts, each party is able to better understand and appreciate the other. The common denominator amongst these partnerships is that there are a multitude of ways in which businesses and schools can benefit and help one another. The COMET Principal for a Day scheme provides an opportunity to discover them.
The programme first originated in New York and COMET brought it to New Zealand in 2002. Since then, over 450 New Zealand business and community leaders have taken part in this unique experience. In 2009, the event was extended to include a reciprocal visit by the Principal to a business or community leader's workplace.
Previous participants have come from a diverse range of occupations; we have partnered schools with CEOs from industries including local government, banking, construction, telecommunications companies, journalists and more.
In 2008 and 2009 COMET Principal for a Day was held in Waikato. Click here to see more.
