COMET congratulates IBM for winning the Fairfax Social Hero Award for Education Partnership 2007 at an Awards evening hosted by the Robin Hood Foundation on Friday July 25.
IBM has worked with the COMET to provide 10 Pasifika Early Childhood Centres with Kidsmart computer desks as part of the SmartCentres project. IBM was named by the Robin Hood Foundation as the Fairfax Social Hero for Education Partnership 2007.
COMET Chief Executive, Bernardine Vester, was very pleased to be present when the award was announced. "COMET has worked with over 40 early childhood centres over the last year to establish development plans for the use of information and communications in each centre for learning and for engaging with their community. The success of the SmartCentres project has been due to the partnerships established as part of the project framework," says Ms Vester.
"IBM has made an very important contribution to the aspirations of Manukau to have every early childhood centre equipped with modern technologies and capable of using them."
"IBM will continue its contribution later this year with ten more Kidsmart computer desks for ten more Pasifika centres. This commitment is most welcome."
COMET would like to thank Katrina Troughton and Debbie Noon of IBM for their support for Manukau's early childhood centres, and congratulate the company on this award for its social responsibility ethic.
